ABOUT
USTA Southwest is excited to present Sets in the City, a fun, young adult (ages 18-39), social tennis club for all skill levels! Whether you just found out that a tennis court has a net, or you received a wildcard bid into the U.S. Open, Sets in the City welcomes all playing abilities! If you really just signed up for the girls and have no idea what you’re doing, you’re in luck! We have 3 levels you can choose from: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced.
In addition to the tennis, be sure to check out all of the great restaurant and bar discounts we’ll be throwing at you!
Match Format
Sets in the City follows a modified version of World Team Tennis format:
-
1 Men's Doubles
-
1 Women's Doubles
-
1 Men's Singles
-
1 Women's Singles
-
2 Mixed Doubles
Scoring
Each individual match is one 6-game set or 40 minutes, whichever comes first. No ad scoring. If a set reaches 5-all, a 9 point tiebreaker is played (first to 5 by 1). One team point is awarded for each game won. The team that wins the most games overall wins the match. If teams are tied at the end of matchplay, a 13 point Supertiebreaker is played (first to 7 by 1) to determine the winner of the match.
Teams
Teams must have a minimum of 3 men and 3 women and have no maximum amount of players. In fact, we know most of you young professionals have last minute things that come up with work, life, etc. so we encourage you to have lots of players aka lots of subs. The format ensures that even if you have 5 men and 5 women show up, everyone will get to play one match that night. Don't be that team that has to forfeit courts!
Locations
Sets in the City is all over the Southwest! Fall programs are running in Albuquerque, Phoenix East Valley, Phoenix West Valley, and Tucson. We only have a set number of spots at each facility so be sure to kick your habit of waiting until 1 hour before the deadline to sign up. If you call us past the deadline pleading to sign up, we will certainly throw you a pity party…but that’s it (ok… we might mail you a koozie). Don't put off the fun!
See you on the courts!
